The current nonblonde version is using the aime interpreter (a small part of nonblonde is written in aime), and thus the interpreter is needed to link programs.

The on disk database coding changes often, and thus different library versions are likely incompatible.
The data store block size is hard-coded, nonblonde libraries can only access databases of the same block size.
